~ Interview ~

1. Hello, Trista! I am very happy to have you here. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Hi! First off, thank you for having me! My family always told me that when I was a tot, too young to remember, I would carry a pen and little notebook to scribble in. According to me, it was filled with stories. I’m pretty sure, even when I had no clue how to write I knew that I wanted to. As I grew older, it was one thing that I was completely drawn to. Short stories became longer and even in high school I had hand written novels laying around in notebooks.

2. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

This will sound so silly, but Dr. Seuss! If there is one thing that, as a writer, I have learned from him, it’s that I don’t have to stick with the norm. It’s writing. It’s fiction. I can do whatever I want. Oh the thinks you can think!

3. What inspired you to write Little Red?

I have this group of wonderful friends, these ladies are the best friends I could ask for even with the miles that separate us. After the song “Hey There Little Red Riding Hood” was sent to me, I was talking them about how I wanted to do spins on my own favorite fairy tales, how I wanted to make them how I saw them in my head. They encouraged me and gave me the final push that I needed.

4. Are any of the characters in your book based on actual people?

There are some people in the world who just inspire me and I couldn’t help myself, Ethan is modeled from Ian Somerhalder. There are a few others that I had models for, but I’ll let the readers read and see who they imagine.

5. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Transferring all the thoughts, conversations, and actions how I see them in my head to paper. I never want to leave anything out and because of this it can take me years to complete one novel. I want it on paper how it played out in my head.

6. What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

It’s a fairy tale and what person doesn’t love fairy tales? I got to create my own fairy tale from a timeless classic but it’s mine, my special spin.

7. What do you think most characterizes your writing?

It’s definitely different and always descriptive. If I can make a reader play the book like a movie in their head as they read, I feel like I’ve done my job.

8. For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books?

Honestly, as long as I can read…give me either or.

9. Do you think that the cover plays an important part in the buying process?

Oh definitely! I think a lot of times that people do judge books by their covers and they use the covers to get a feel for the book.

10. What hobbies do you enjoy when you are not writing?

I love playing guitar, hiking, working out, I love the outdoors and living in Alaska it’s easy to find lots to do in the summer. I love painting, sketching and doodling. I’d definitely call myself artsy.

11. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Never let negative words get to you. If someone doesn’t like something, remember you do it for you. Keep moving forward.

12. What are your favourites books of all time?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Christine, Can You Keep a Secret?, Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book, Pride and Prejudice.

13. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Never give up. Keep writing. Remember even the greats were rejected at one point. Chin up and keep moving forward.

14. Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?

A huge thank you to fans. I always say it, but I’m so grateful for the fans and readers who have given me a chance. I appreciate each and every one. I hope everyone enjoys Little Red and the Believe series. My collection of fairy tales are special to me and I have grown to love each character.
